Principal's welcome

Students, you are joining a young and vibrant school. We have established a reputation for quality and we intend to keep it that way. We know you will assist in doing this. You come here to attend, behave, work and participate. There's so much to do at our school to make your time here fun and productive. At the same time, your key job is to set yourself up for life beyond secondary schooling.

Our motto says it all – 'Creating our futures'.

Parents, welcome to you, too! Your son's or daughter's enrolment begins an important relationship. Together, we will watch your child grow into adulthood. Your home, of course, is the strongest educator and influence upon your teenager. We wish to build on that foundation to provide quality secondary education for your child, whether she or he is headed to work, university or further training.

The high expectations we have in curriculum, learning and teaching, dress, behaviour and involvement can only be met, realistically, when we support each other. Please volunteer, ring our teachers, encourage your child to solve problems positively and, above all, please read our weekly newsletters – they are a great starting point for our home-school partnership.

New staff, welcome to Tannum Sands State High School! We hope that you find lots to explore on our website. When you arrive to join our team, we believe you’ll find our school a positive place to work, with clear directions and a consistent focus – optimised teaching, high expectations for learning and a wellbeing that creates a positive climate for learning. We look forward to your contributions over coming months and years!

"It's got a real community feel. Most people you run into in Tannum (Sands) have some sort of connection to the school, be it they are grandparents or parents to students, or previous students. That's really special. You don't get that at many other places."
