At Tannum Sands SHS we believe our senior students (Yr 10-12) possess a range of skills, values and characteristics that have been developed through the Junior School, but they can be further developed through the provision of more experience, autonomy and learning opportunities. These opportunities are in keeping with the school principles of respect, responsibility and excellence.
Overall in the Senior Schooling years we have a goal to:
- ensure all graduating and exiting students have the opportunity to gain their:
- Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)
- an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and/or
- a Certificate II or higher VET qualification
- provide opportunities for students to gain experience in the workplace.
- provide safe, comfortable and enjoyable years of learning.
- provide flexible learning options that allow students to remain at school to complete Year 12, but at the same time, keep as many options for future learning and work pathways open to the them.
- provide opportunities to develop leadership skills.
- reinforce the importance of setting, reviewing and celebrating educational and personal goals.

Assessment
and AARAs - Years 11 and 12
The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) recognises that some students have disability, impairment and/or medical conditions, or experience other circumstances that may be a barrier to their performance in assessment. Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments (AARA) are designed to assist these students.
You can download the AARA application form and policy document (pdf 348kb)
AARA Medical report form (pdf 218kb)

These barriers fall into broad categories:

- Mental health conditions, such as anxiety and depression
- Short-term conditions and temporary injuries
- Illness and misadventure.
Eligible

Students with the same condition may experience highly varied impacts on their education, and their ability to demonstrate their learning, knowledge and skill in assessments. Functional impact/s of the condition may also vary from subject to subject for an individual student.
